After the new date, Slovak citizens can travel on holiday or to visit family for up to 45 days without administrative formalities. This is a significant simplification, which will be appreciated not only by experienced travellers, but also by those who are planning to travel to Vietnam for the first time. Find out what the entry requirements are, what to look out for and in which cases you will still need a visa.

New rules for Slovak citizens

From 15 August 2025 the decision of the Vietnamese government to allow Slovak citizens to travel to Vietnam without a visa for the purpose of tourism or visit enters into force, provided that their stay does not exceed 45 days. The measure is valid until 14 August 2028so travellers have three years to take advantage of this benefit.

Visa-free entry means easier and quicker travel planning - no need to fill in applications, pay fees and wait for approval. Travelling to Vietnam without a visa is particularly practical for those planning spontaneous trips or wanting the flexibility to change holiday dates.

Conditions for entry without a visa

Although travelling to Vietnam without a visa greatly simplifies the preparation process, certain requirements must be met in order to be granted entry. These include:

Valid passport - at least 6 months from the date of entry into Vietnam

At least two free pages in the passport for entry and exit stamps

Stay maximum 45 days from the date of entry

Purpose of trip: Tourism or visiting family and friends

Visa-free entry does not apply to work, business, study or other long-term stays. In the event of a breach of the authorised length of stay, the Vietnamese authorities may fine you or ban you from entering the country for a certain period of time.

Documents and recommendations for travellers

When travelling to Vietnam without a visa, it is necessary to carry a valid identity document, which can be checked at any time. We also recommend:

Make a a photocopy of your passport (page with personal data and stamps) and store it separately from the original.

Check health recommendations, such as vaccinations against hepatitis A and B or typhoid fever.

Study basic local customs - for example, respecting religious and cultural rules.

Keep an overview of the security situation in the region you are planning to visit.

Such measures can make it much easier to deal with any complications and make your stay more pleasant.

Special scheme for Phu Quoc island

The Island Phu Quoc has its own regime - tourists can enter here without a visa for 30 days. Arrival by direct flight or transit via Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City airports is a prerequisite. However, if you plan to travel from Phu Quoc to the interior of Vietnam, you will need a valid visa or e-visa. This is convenient for holidaymakers who want to spend the whole time on the island, but beware of the conditions for onward transfers. Travelling to Vietnam without a visa is only covered under this scheme when staying exclusively on the island.

What if you want to stay longer?

For stays of more than 45 days, a visa is required. The easiest options are electronic visa (e-visa)which can be obtained through the official portal of the Vietnamese Government. E-visas are issued to 90 days and may be valid for one or more entries. The processing usually takes at least three working days, but can take longer for large numbers of applications. We therefore recommend that you apply well in advance and check whether your entry point is one of the crossing points where e-visas are accepted. If you are planning to combine visa-free travel to Vietnam with a subsequent longer stay, prepare your visa documents before departure.

Key information at a glance

15. 8. 2025 - 14. 8. 2028: visa-free travel for Slovak citizens

Stay max. 45 days

Passport valid 6 months from entry + 2 free sides

Just hiking and visiting

Always keep your ID with you

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic recommends that travellers make use of the voluntary registration service before travelling abroad, available at the official website of the Ministry or through mobile application Svetobezžka.
