From 2 April 2025, the UK Government is introducing mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for travellers. Here's an overview of important information to help you prepare for your trip.

When to register?

• Registration will be available from 5 March 2025.

• From 2 April 2025 registration will be compulsory.

• Registration must be carried out at least 3 working days before travel.

• The authorisation decision shall normally be issued within 3 working days, in rare cases it may take longer.

Tip: Check whether you can apply for an ETA now or later.

Who doesn't need an ETA?

ETA is not required for citizens of the Slovak Republic who:

1. They have permission to stay in the UK (settled or provisional settled status).

2. They hold a visa for the UK.

3. They have dual citizenship (British/Irish and Slovak) and a valid British or Irish passport.

4. Have legal residence in Ireland under the Common Travel Area (CTA) when travelling to the UK (proof of residence may be required).

5. They are exempt from immigration controls (e.g. diplomats with a valid vignette).

6. They transit through Manchester or Heathrow airports without going through border control (temporary exception).

Who needs an ETA?

ETA is compulsory for citizens of the Slovak Republic who:

1. They are planning a short stay in the UK (e.g. tourism, visiting friends, business trips, land transit).

2. They do not have a valid immigration status in the UK.

3. They fall into the category of T5 Creatives (members of art and film crews, actors, dancers, musicians).

4. They are registered as legally resident in Ireland and are travelling to the UK from outside the CTA.

What do I need to register?

1. Provide contact details.

2. Enter the details of the passport that will be used for the trip.

3. Upload a recent digital photo or take a photo via the app.

4. Answer a set of questions.

5. Pay the fee GBP 10 (planned increase to 16 GBP).

The ETA decision will normally be issued within 3 working days.

ETA validity

• ETA is valid 2 years and digitally linked to the passport.

• If you lose your passport, you will need to apply for a new ETA.

How to register?

1. Through the app UK ETA.

2. Through the official website.

Each person (including children) must have a separate completed application.

Registration for another person

If you are applying for an ETA for a person who is not with you, do the following:

• Use the website instead of the app.

• In the app, select the option "If you are applying for someone not with you, apply online instead", which will redirect you to the website.
