Dear Clients,
this is to inform you about the current extended deadlines for issuing travel and identity documents. Following the fact that all personal documents such as passports, identity cards, residence permits for foreigners or vehicle registration cards issued by the National Personalization Center and due to the increased number of applications, there is a high probability of delayed delivery of documents in normal filing without express issuance.
In this context, we therefore recommend that you consider issuing the document under the expedited procedure for an increased fee, otherwise expect a delayed delivery.
Press release of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic:
"Since the beginning of this year, document departments in Slovakia have received almost 234 thousand applications for passports. In the same period last year, there were about 120 thousand applications. The percentage increase is therefore more than 90 percent. In March 2024, the daily number of applications received exceeded 4,000 applications, with almost 8,000 applications recorded on a single day. Passports and other documents are produced by the National Personalisation Centre. Despite the best efforts and workload of the staff after working hours and on weekends, it is not possible to issue all passports on time. The standard 30-day deadline may therefore be extended in a few days. The enormous interest in travel documents was caused by the announced increase in administrative fees for their issuance, coupled with the fact that it occurred at a time when Slovaks are starting to prepare for their summer holidays. The National Personnel Centre is making every effort to ensure that the delay in the production of documents is kept to a minimum. We ask for your patience and assure you that we will do everything possible to process your application as quickly as possible. We would like to remind you that citizens of the Slovak Republic can also use a valid ID card with a photo for full-fledged travel within the EU and Schengen."Source: Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic [minv.sk]
