Temporary stay - Study
Residence permit for foreign students
We provide a complete legal service for foreign students from third countries and residence facilities in the Slovak Republic.
An alien (third-country national) may obtain temporary residence for the purpose of study in the Slovak Republic if:
1. is a full-time secondary school student and is under the age of 20 on the date of application for temporary residence; in the case of a student of postgraduate studies, qualification studies, specialization studies or higher professional studies as of the date of submission of the application for a temporary residence permit under the age of 23
2. is a university student or
3. participates in language or vocational training to study at a university that is organized by a university in the Slovak Republic.
In 2021, the age limit for granting a temporary stay to high school students applies to a temporary stay for the purpose of study, and the possibility of obtaining a temporary stay due to studying at a language school of at least 25 hours per week has disappeared.
According to the explanatory memorandum, "the change does not prohibit foreigners with a legal residence from studying at a language school in the Slovak Republic; study at a language school alone will not be a reason for granting a temporary residence permit."
